Survivor Of Fiery New Canaan Crash Thanks Man Who Saved Him: Report

Thomas Dubin pulled an unconscious Russ Kohl out of a burning car on May 3.

NEW CANAAN, CT — Sixty-one-year-old New Canaan resident Russ Kohl is alive today thanks to the heroic efforts of Wilton resident Thomas Dubin, and Kohl wants Dubin and the public to know that he's forever grateful, reports News 12.

Dubin pulled an injured and unconscious Kohl out of a burning car on May 3, after Kohl crashed into a tree at the intersection of Cross Ridge and North Wilton roads in New Canaan. New Canaan police honored Kohl this week by presenting him with its Civilian Service Award for his heroism.

Kohl, whose identity was not initially released by police, is recuperating at home from the broken bones and dislocated hip he suffered in the crash, but he doesn't remember much from it.
