Three municipal employees, including two with multiple sclerosis, have been named as recipients for a MS Society Connecticut chapter award.

The recipients are: New Canaan HR Director Cheryl Pickering-Jones, diagnosed more 20 years ago with the disease that attacks the central nervous system; Pam Lind, who works in the town finance department and was diagnosed eight years ago; and Amy Lynn of the HR department.

The Georgina B. Davids award goes to individuals "living life to the fullest in the face of adversity or making a difference for those battling the effects of multiple sclerosis," according to the CT chapter of the organization (http://www.nationalmssociety.org/chapters/ctn/index.aspx).

The women four years ago organized "Cocktails and Crooning," a local, annual fundraiser for the MS Society that's netted more than $100,00 since launching four years ago.

"It means a lot to us because we are affected by it," Lind, a town resident, said of the event (which will return next year after a hiatus in 2013 due to busy schedules).

Added Pickering-Jones, of Fairfield: "We're hoping to find a cure one day so that our kids and grandkids are not affected by this."

Lynn, of Monroe, had worked previously at a nursing home with many MS patients. Her husband is a singer and the pair were instrumental in seeding the idea for Cocktails and Crooning, which has drawn 200-plus to Waveny since it started.
