Train Schedule Enhancements Announced For New Canaan Branch Line

A new schedule for the Metro-North New Haven Line includes restoration of New Canaan Branch Line express trains to Grand Central Terminal.

NEW CANAAN, CT — The Connecticut Department of Transportation recently announced a new schedule took effect Sunday on the Metro-North New Haven Line which includes restoration of New Canaan Branch Line express trains to Grand Central Terminal.

According to a news release, New Haven Line customers will see an increase in weekday train service to approximately 82 percent of pre-coronavirus crisis levels, an increase of about 40 trains, bringing the total number of weekday trains to 246 trains.

Weekend train service will return to pre-pandemic service levels. Weekday express service to GCT on the New Canaan Branch Line will resume with six through trains southbound to GCT and five through trains northbound to New Canaan, according to the DOT.

The DOT encourages all rail customers to pre-purchase tickets before boarding using Ticket Vending Machines, the CTrail eTix mobile app for connecting Metro-North New Haven Line or the MTA eTix mobile app. The CTrail eTix mobile app accepts Apple and Google Pay.

CTDOT and Metro-North also remind customers to always wear a mask or face covering at train stations and when traveling on the train. Customers who feel sick should not use public transportation, according to the DOT.

The updated New Haven Line train schedule is available at www.mta.info/mnr, and customers are encouraged to check the schedules and status of service before they travel, according to the DOT.
