Young Actors Bring Anti-Bullying Message To Peers
New Canaan's Whitney Woerz, 11, and Sadie Seelert, 10, perform with the Random Farms Kids Theater's traveling show and anti-bullying assembly "The New Kid" in schools throughout the area.
After weeks of rehearsal at the Random Farms Kids Theater's performing arts center in Elmsford, N.Y., two casts of local actors between the ages of 10 and 15 take their show on the road to schools within a one hour radius of New York City.
"The New Kid" is a 55-minute musical performance that addresses issues of bullying, peer pressure and cliques. The show is set in a fictional middle school that will feel very familiar its student audiences.
Woerz takes on the supporting role of Shawn, a bully who participates in the hazing of a new student who recently moved to P.S. 32. Seelert provides comic relief in her portrayal of Maddie, a chatty member of the "brainiac squad" who are targeted for doing their homework during recess.
