I went to the New Canaan Recycling Center to dispose a small amount of wood trim. I was unloading the wood on to the pile of debris already there I noted a red and white cloth covered under the debris. I pulled the cloth out, it was the American Flag still on a pole. For a moment I was overcome. Who would have thrown our Flag in the trash? I am not a Flag Waver. But why would anyone disrespect our flag in that manor. I thought of the guys I served with in Viet Nam. Many did not come back. I thought of all the times I stand and face the flag before our HS Football games. I thought how good we all feel when we stand for our Flag. I took the Flag Home. I have put it on display in front of my house on special holidays. It makes me feel good when I see it. Please ! If you have to dispose of a flag you can take it to the fire station, VFW or American Legion and they will dispose of the flag in the proper respectful manner. To the person who put our Flag in the trash, Thank You ! Your disrespect helped me remember not to take our Flag for Granted and what it stands for. Now when I stand for our Flag I feel even better.
