NEW CANAAN, CT — The window of a vehicle parked at Waveny Park was smashed and items were stolen Saturday evening, according to police.

In a news release, Police Lt. Marc DeFelice said officers were called to the park's pool parking lot around 6 p.m. An officer who was already at Waveny helping New Canaan Emergency Medical Service with an unrelated medial call spotted a white SUV driving slowly in the parking lot.

The officer tried to get behind the SUV and identify its registration, but the vehicle sped up and exited the parking lot onto Lapham Road. Other officers in the area spotted the SUV traveling north onto Old Stamford Road toward the downtown area, DeFelice said.
