Winter Team State Championship History: New Canaan High School

NEW CANAAN, CT — As practices for high school winter sports officially get underway in Connecticut Monday (girls basketball, ice hockey and wrestling) and Thursday (boys basketball, indoor track, boys swimming and girls gymnastics), hopes run high for all teams to achieve the ultimate goal: winning a league championship, and possibly a state title.

To help squads get into the championship mentality, here is a listing of the 31 CIAC winter team titles won by New Canaan High School in past years (* - indicates a co-op team).

• boys swimming (12) - Class L: 2017, 2016, 1982, 1981; Class M: 2001, 2009, 2008, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2002; State Open: 2007
• boys basketball (7) - Class M: 1962; Class S: 1958, 1957, 1956; Class C-D: 1934, 1933, 1932
• boys indoor track (6) - Class L: 2011; Class S: 1958, 1957, 1956, 1955, 1954
• girls indoor track (5) - Class M: 1999, 1998; State Open: 1998, 1997; Class S: 1997
• boys ice hockey (1) - Div. I: 1972
