Won’t back library if 1913 one is torn down

What a disgrace!

I was going to be a major supporter of the New Canaan Library if they wanted to do an extension. I would’ve been 100 percent behind that. Instead, they are tearing it down.

I’m encouraging everybody to not help fund this ridiculous and offensive mission to tear down one of the most beautiful historic landmarks of our town and put up this monstrosity. It’s an over-the-top building.

In addition, it’s a total waste of money.

Right now, we are in the middle of a terrible pandemic, families have no food and local businesses are hurting. The library and its management along with its board of directors should be ashamed of themselves.

I’m encouraging everyone in town to not back this new library. The original building can easily be left and have an extension built. Let the library’s board look for a new location to put up their brand-new glossy building and leave our current library in place as a historic landmark.

Keep your hands off our beautiful, historic town — we are starting to look like a mini Stamford city.
