Press release from The Young Women’s League of New Canaan:
June 12 2020
Over $46,000 in grants were awarded to twelve charities by the Young Women’s League of New Canaan to conclude their giving year, Today’s Kids, Tomorrow’s Future. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, half of their annual fundraising events were cancelled this spring and the YWL changed course and collected directly for local drives instead of their usual event-based fundraising efforts. “The charities we support are facing an increased need right now and are managing with reduced funding as most annual galas and events were cancelled or postponed,” said YWL president Anna Diamantis. “If we were not going to be able to raise money, then we had to find other ways to help.”

Grant recipients include ABC House of New Canaan, New Canaan Mounted Troop, Kids Fans of Stamford Hospital, STAR, Inc, and Urban Impact. Lindsay Burns, VP of Charity Research said, "All of these organizations are finding creative ways to commit to their mission of helping kids have a brighter future despite the epidemic. Whether they are fighting food insecurity, providing emotional and mental health support, shelter or educational opportunities they would not otherwise experience. They are an inspiration to the local communities and we are proud to partner with them. "
The YWL is grateful to the 100 women who volunteered to make this year successful. These members along with sponsors Porsche Greenwich, Ashley Petraska of William Pitt, Sotheby’s, and Walter Stewart’s Market are committed to making a local impact.
