1 Dead, 2 Injured In Fair Haven Triple Shooting

A man is dead and two others were injured following a triple shooting Thursday afternoon.

NEW HAVEN, CT — One man is dead following a tripe shooting Thursday afternoon at Lloyd and Exchange streets, according to police. The victim, Roberto Rivera, was 34 years old.

Two others were injured in the 2:30 p.m. incident in the Fair Haven neighborhood. Police arrived on the scene to find Rivera with a life-threatening head injury.

A second victim, a 28-year-old Fair Haven resident, came forward with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the hand. An ambulance transported both New Haven men to the hospital. The hand wound victim has since been released from the hospital.

Around 9:25 p.m., a third victim, a 20-year-old Waterbury man with a gunshot wound to the leg, arrived by private vehicle at Yale New Haven Hospital, according to police. He has since been discharged from the hospital.

Investigators believe prior to the shooting, the men had been outside near a corner convenience store or walking in the area when an unknown gunman began shooting.

Friday afternoon at a community press conference at Lloyd and Exchange streets, New Haven Police Chief Otoniel Reyes said the shooting was not a random act but a targeted act of violence.

Assistant Chief of Investigations Karl Jacobson encouraged the public to continue calling the police department with information about the incident.
