1 Killed, 1 Critical After Car Hits Tree: New Haven Police

A victim ID has been released by police.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A West Haven resident was killed in a crash in New Haven, police said.

At 1:27 p.m. Saturday, police responded to the 600 block of Woodward Avenue on a report of a crash.

Police said they found a Hyundai Elantra struck a tree, and the rear seat passenger, an 18-year-old from Bridgeport, was lying on the ground.

The driver, a 20-year-old female from Bridgeport, and the front seat passenger, Jocelyn Hernandez, 23, of West Haven, were found in the vehicle suffering from apparent injuries, police said.

All three were taken to the hospital, and Hernandez died as a result of the injuries she sustained, police said.

The driver is in critical condition, and the rear passenger suffered serious injuries, police said.

"The initial investigation shows that the Hyundai was traveling south on Woodward Avenue at the time of the collision, but investigators are working to determine the cause of the collision," police said.
