Dead Victim Identified In New Haven Crash

The crash involved a stolen vehicle, police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT — One person was killed and another injured after a crash near the New Haven and East Haven town line.

Police have identified the dead victim as Jarelle Gibbs, 24, of New Haven. He was a passenger in the vehicle being operated by Brandon Shealy, 22, of West Haven.

A Ford Taurus traveling southbound on Quinnipiac Avenue went off-road and went onto 1172 Quinnipiac Avenue and struck a tree, according to State Police. Prior to the crash the vehicle was fleeing Hamden Police. To sign up for New Haven breaking news alerts and more, click here.

The vehicle had been stolen from Trumbull on Aug. 12, State Police said.

State Police are handling the investigation of the crash.
