100th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION FOR MARY DIAMONTE, RN

LIFE OF ENHANCING THE QUALITY OF PATIENT CARE

On Sunday, December 10, 2023, Mary Diamante, RN, a renowned healthcare professional, celebrated her 100th birthday at Chatham Place at Mary Wade. The event was graced by her family members, friends, and past colleagues, along with Monsignor Shanley, American Red Cross, and Dr. Richard Marottoli, Medical Director Dorothy Alder Geriatric Assessment Center at Yale New Haven Hospital.

During the celebration, Dr. Marottoli presented five proclamations to Ms. Diamante from the office of Rosa DeLauro, New Haven Mayor Elicker, East Haven Mayor Carfora, Aldermanic Citation, and Archbishop Blair in recognition of her contributions to the healthcare industry.

Ms. Diamante graduated from Grace Hospital School of Nursing and obtained further education in pediatrics and isolation at Yale in 1945. She opened the first Intensive Care Unit at Yale New Haven Hospital in 1962 and went on to become the Head Nurse of the Ear, Nose, and Throat Clinic at the same hospital. Her remarkable achievements in the healthcare industry earned her the American Red Cross B.J. Maris Award for organization and leadership in blood services program. Past President of the Lady’s Guild of Our Lady of Pompeii Church.
