2 Killed In New Haven Blaze, 3 Firefighters Injured: Report
There are reports that people were jumping from windows in an effort to escape the blaze.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Two people were killed during a fire that broke out at 3:20 a.m. Sunday on West Street. Three firefighters were injured along with a local resident, the New Haven Register reports.
When firefighters arrived they were able to rescue two trapped people but they later died. One person, who was injured, jumped from the burning building, the New Haven Register reports.
There are reports that at least two other residents jumped from windows to safety. Sixteen people lived in the building. The fire is under investigation.

Firefighters were able to rescue two people via a narrow staircase and CPR was performed on them but they later died at a local hospital, NBC CT reports. One person who jumped from the building was unconscious after landing and is still at a hospital.
New Haven 4th Ward alder, Evelyn Rodriguez, says it‘s a building code violation for 16 people to live in a home this size. Also said LCI has been here before due to “issues” and officialls have been trying to get a hold of landlord but haven’t been able to. @NBCConnecticut #nbct

The injured firefighters suffered from shoulder, smoke inhalation and back pain, NBC CT reports.

The names of the two people killed have not yet been released.
