2 Killed In Separate Shootings In New Haven [UPDATE]

Police are investigating two fatal shootings and two non-fatal shootings that occurred Tuesday.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Police are investigating following two fatal shootings and two non-fatal shootings. The incidents are part of a larger spike in violent crime, with a dozen shootings in the last week, according to The New Haven Register.

Forty-year-old Howard Lewis of Hamden was shot outside a Munson Street home near Sherman Parkway in the Dixwell neighborhood at 6:05 p.m. He was transported to the hospital and was pronounced deceased a short while later.

In a separate incident, police responded to a call at 10: 11 p.m. and found a gunshot victim inside a corner store on Whalley Avenue between Hobart Street and Blake Street. Police said the victim killed in the shooting was Ibrahim Valentino Shareef, Jr., 33, of New Haven.

There were also two non-fatal shootings Tuesday, according to police.

Just after 7:00 p.m., a 20-year-old New Haven man was shot in the leg on Ferry Street between Fox Street and Dover Street. An ambulance transported the victim with non-life-threatening injuries to the hospital.

Around 8:20 p.m. and only a few blocks from the Ferry Street shooting, an 18-year-old Hamden man was shot in the neck. The victim arrived by private vehicle at Yale New Haven Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

Investigators believe the victim was shot while riding in a motor vehicle on State Street at May Street.
