2 Men Arrested For New Haven Shootings

Police have arrested two men accused of being tied to separate shootings in 2020.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Two men have been arrested in connection with shootings in New Haven, according to police. Willie Clark Jr., 28, was arrested Jan. 6 in connection with the non-fatal shooting of a 35-year-old victim Oct. 7.

Police were called to the Regal Inn Motel at 1605 Whalley Ave. at 4:16 a.m. for a report of gunshots. Investigation led to Clark's arrest and he was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm, and unlawful discharge.

In a separate incident, Matthew Santos, 19, was arrested Jan. 9 in connection with a Jan. 21, 2020 shooting. Police said they were called that day to the area of 203 Spring St. for a ShotSpotter activation of seven shots fired.

Officers were then sent to Yale New Haven Hospital for the report of a non-fatal gunshot victim, a 21-year-old East Haven man.

After investigation, Santos was charged with first-degree assault, unlawful discharge, first-degree reckless endangerment, weapons in a motor vehicle, and carrying a pistol without a permit.
