2nd Time's A Charm: Turned Away Once, Sally's Welcomes Conan O'Brien

NEW HAVEN, CT — One day last year, when the iconic Wooster Street pizzeria was booked solid, a very tall guy with red hair hoping to get a seat was turned away at the door. Likely just one of many that didn't get a table at Sally's Apizza that day. Restaurant manager Rylan did not recognize tall red-headed guy Conan O'Brien.

In a post to Facebook, Sally's Apizza tells the story:

"Word quickly got around the restaurant Conan had been spotted out front and turned away. A regretful Rylan ran up and down Wooster Street looking for him but it was too late. He was long gone, already halfway through his pie elsewhere. Not a day has passed that the team has let her live it down."

Her redemption came Monday. Big time. O'Brien returned because, as he scrawled on a pizza box, Sally's is the "best pizza ever." And, he conceded that Rylan was correct when she 86'd the comic.

"Hey, Rylan. You were so right to toss me out ...I'm a bum!"

But back to Conan.

Monday, O'Brien paid another visit to the legendary New Haven pizzeria, but this time, he got a table. And he did not sign just one pizza box, but two, declaring Sally's, "Not the best pizza in New Haven ...the best pizza EVER."
