35-Year-Old New Haven Man Killed In Sunday Vehicle Vs. Moped Crash: PD

Antonio Cruz-Ortiz ​died from his injuries after the moped he was driving around sunrise on Sunday was involved in a crash on Grasso Blvd.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A 35-year-old New Haven man died following a Sunday crash on Ella T. Grasso Boulevard, police said.

Antonio Cruz-Ortiz died from his injuries after the moped he was driving at sunrise was involved in a crash with a vehicle police simply described as a gray Nissan. When first responders got to the scene on Grasso between Adeline Street and Printers Lane, they found Cruz-Ortiz "unresponsive," according to New Haven police spokesperson Scott Shumway.

Taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, Cruz-Ortiz succumbed to his injuries, Shumway said.

The driver of the Nissan stayed at the scene of the crash, Shumway said, adding "no charges have been filed at this time."

The New Haven Police Crash Reconstruction Team is leading the investigation, he said.
