The homeless situation in New Haven is crucial right now. Taking an early morning walk on the streets around Yale New Haven Hospital area you will see people sleeping in doorways of buildings that are vacant. If that isn't an enigma, I don't know what is. The building is vacant, either owned by the city or someone who doesn't care about the building. Why doesn't the city buy these buildings cheaply and turn them into housing for the homeless? I felt like I had to do something so I'm starting this coalition, and I really need people to join and help out and talk to the people at City Hall and get something done for these homeless people. They can't do this themselves they need us to help them. My idea was the coalition is to have the city either fix up buildings they already own that are abandoned, or by buildings that are vacant cheaply, and have the homeless help revitalize the home. Many homeless people are skilled laborers and would be more than happy to help do whatever they can to have a place to lay their head. There's no fee for joining the Coalition I just need some people to help me I can't do it alone. I want to try to get some grants from some agencies and see if we can do something if anyone's interested please contact me at bethm8552@gmail.com.
Thank you so much and please don't forget these people really need us they're sleeping in doorways and on bus stop benches, it's not only uncomfortable it's dangerous and it's not just men it's women too. They have nowhere to go the shelters don't have enough room and they have no choice.
