After August Storm Shuttered Lighthouse Point Park, Repairs, Restoration Complete, Park Reopens Friday

NEW HAVEN, CT—The wild Aug. 13 storm, which overnight saw a downburst and hurricane-force winds whip the shoreline from Milford to East Haven, caused significant damage to New Haven's Lighthouse Point Park.

The storm uprooted and felled 95 trees and caused significant damage to the historic carousel building and other areas of the park. The city shuttered the popular park.

Since then, the city's Parks Department and other city workers have labored to restore the park to a "state of good condition."

That work included securing the carousel building; removing and pruning downed and damaged trees; cleaning up broken glass and debris; and assisting individuals with identifying new venues for weddings and other events and celebrations that were scheduled to occur at the park while it was closed.

Beginning Friday, Lighthouse Point Park will be reopened to the public at its normal opening hour of 7 a.m. The park closes at sunset.
