According to NHPS, the academy fosters "a supportive environment built on collaboration and a plurality of perspectives, empowering students to become active, multilingual, and multicultural members of their community who create, contribute, and lead with confidence."

Muñoz was nominated for the statewide honor by the Wilbur Cross PTSA. Her application received dozens of letters of support from teachers, students, families, and community members.

In addition, Muñoz’s efforts to promote the rights of immigrant students have received national attention.

"I am immensely proud of Cora Muñoz for being named the Connecticut State PTA's Outstanding High School Assistant Principal," said Dr. Madeline Negrón, superintendent of the New Haven Public Schools. "Mrs. Muñoz's unwavering compassion, especially for our most vulnerable students and families, and her dedication to empowering multilingual and multicultural students through the International Academy, exemplify the very best of our district. We are deeply grateful for her tireless work and service to the Wilbur Cross community."

Muñoz earned a master’s degree in multicultural, bilingual, and TESOL from Southern Connecticut State University in 2012 and a sixth year in educational leadership from the University of Connecticut in 2018. She began her teaching career in 2007 at Hill Central School, where she taught in bilingual classrooms for students from kindergarten through third grade. She joined the NHPS Talent Office in 2014 and later served as district TESOL high school instructional coach before joining Wilbur Cross as assistant principal in 2019.
