NEW HAVEN, CT — Just before 4 p.m. Monday, a New Haven police K-9 officer in a marked cruiser was on his way to police headquarters on Union Street when, a spokesperson said, a man ran up to the cruiser and "began banging on the hood as if he needed help."

As the officer got out of the car to help the man, later identified as Myron Mullins, 23, "began an unprovoked attack, sucker-punching the officer several times in the face before he was able to react and defend himself," police spokesperson Officer Christian Bruckhart said.

Bruckhart said other cops "saw the two struggling and assisted in taking Mullins into custody."

The New Haven man was charged with assault on a police officer, interfering with police, and disorderly conduct. He was held on a $150,000 bond.

Bruckhart said Mullins was arrested in October of 2025 for attacking city police in an "unprovoked assault." He said Mullins was previously arrested on two other occasions for "attempting to damage police vehicles."
