New Haven Police Charge Man, 34, In Connection With March Bus Stop Stabbing

NEW HAVEN, CT — On March 9, just after 5 p.m., police were called to Church and Temple streets for the report of a stabbing.

The victim, 32, who lives in Pennsylvania, said that while he was at a bus stop, he saw a man he'd had "prior altercations" with, police said.

"The suspect brandished a kitchen knife and stabbed the victim several times," causing life-threatening injuries, and then took off on foot and got away, police said.

The injured man was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The case was assigned to Detective James Marcum of the New Haven Police Department Major Crimes Unit. Marcum investigated and secured an arrest warrant for Kyle Valentine, 34, of New Haven for the charges of first-degree assault and carrying a dangerous weapon with a court-set bond of $300,000.

Late Wednesday night, officers assigned to the Criminal Intelligence Unit, the Shooting Task Force, and the State Police Violent Crime Task Force "located Valentine" at a Grasso Blvd, gas station, and he was taken into custody without incident, police said.

During a search, cops found crack cocaine packaged for sale in one of his pants pockets, leading to additional charges.

Valentine also has two outstanding arrest warrants for failure to appear, police said.
