1. Only High School Team at Yale Innovation Summit Is New Haven's Engineering & Science University Magnet School (patch.com) — New Haven students from the Engineering & Science University Magnet School are representing the city as the only high school team invited to present at the Yale Innovation Summit. Their Sentia project, a wearable navigation system for blind and visually impaired users, blends optical imaging and advanced AI to provide real-time hazard detection and feedback, showcasing local talent on a major innovation stage.    

2. New Haven Man Sentenced to 29 Years in Federal Prison for Pandemic Robbery Spree: Feds (patch.com) — A New Haven man has been sentenced in federal court to 29 years in prison for a string of armed gas station robberies across multiple Connecticut towns during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic. Investigators from New Haven and several other local departments, along with the FBI and state police, helped build the case that led to his conviction on robbery and firearms charges.    

3. UPDATE: New Haven Boy, 11, Missing, Police Seek Community Help In Locating Him (patch.com) — New Haven residents are being updated after police reported that 11-year-old Ocean Francois, who was previously reported missing near Wooster Place by Conte West School, has now been safely located. The case prompted a citywide search effort, with New Haven police initially asking for tips from anyone who might have seen the boy in New Haven or nearby Hamden.    

4. Advocates Celebrate $350K For Food Aid In City Budget (newhavenindependent.org) — New Haven has committed $350,000 in its new city budget to support food assistance programs serving residents facing hunger and food insecurity. The Greater New Haven Coordinated Food Assistance Network says the funding will bolster pantries, school-break grocery distributions, SNAP outreach, and infrastructure like refrigeration and transportation access, helping thousands of vulnerable New Haven families across the city.    

5. Connecticut NAACP hosts Wake Up Wednesday in New Haven (wtnh.com) — An ongoing “Wake Up Wednesday” anti-violence gathering is being held every week at the McDonald’s on Whalley Avenue in New Haven, led by the Connecticut NAACP. Organizers and New Haven police recruits are engaging residents, especially young people, with food, conversation, and activities while addressing violence and concentrated poverty in city neighborhoods.
