NEW HAVEN, CT — Yale University Properties and Arts Council of Greater New Haven invite the community to experience the inaugural Downtown New Haven Summer Art Stroll, a free self-guided event taking place June 13–28 throughout the Chapel Street, Broadway, and Whitney-Audubon Districts at The Shops at Yale
The two-week event will feature more than 30 talented local artists showcased inside 22 local businesses, with all pieces available for purchase. Visitors are encouraged to explore Downtown New Haven’s vibrant mix of local boutiques, restaurants, cafés, galleries, and cultural destinations while discovering artwork displayed throughout participating locations.
Guests can pick up a free Art Stroll Guide & Passport at participating locations and collect stamps at participating businesses. Visitors who collect five stamps may receive a free small hot or iced beverage from Willoughby’s Coffee & Tea; those who collect 10 stamps may receive a free small ice cream from Ashley’s Ice Cream.
“The Summer Art Stroll is designed to welcome residents, visitors, families, summer students, and guests of the International Festival of Arts & Ideas to explore Downtown New Haven in a creative and engaging way,” said David DelVecchio, director of real estate asset management for Yale University Properties. “This event supports local artists and brings together small businesses, restaurants, and cultural organizations while celebrating the creativity, diversity, walkability, and energy that make Downtown New Haven such a vibrant destination during the summer season.”
The event, which is free and open to the public, officially launches on Saturday, June 13, coinciding with the popular Appetizer & Dessert Crawl, a fundraiser benefiting the Arts Council of Greater New Haven. Visitors can expect live music from New Haven Jazz Underground throughout the stroll on June 13 from noon to 3 p.m.
“This partnership helps connect artists directly with the community while activating local businesses and public spaces,” said Hope Chávez, Executive Director of Arts Council of Greater New Haven. “It’s a unique way to reimagine the possibilities between artists and merchants while highlighting the creativity that exists throughout Greater New Haven.”
