NEW HAVEN, CT—After a near year-long investigation, a 45-year-old New Haven man has been charged with the July 2025 rape of a child, according to New Haven police spokesperson Officer Christian Bruckhart.
On July 15, 2025, police responded to a city address for a report of a sexual assault involving a juvenile victim, Bruckhart confirmed.
The case was assigned to Detective Christopher Boyle of the Special Victim’s Unit, who was able to develop probable cause to arrest Artavis Evans and charge him with first-degree sexual assault with the threat of force/weapon.

Evans was also charged with risk of injury to a minor, first-degree threatening with a firearm, and illegal contact with the victim.
Unable to post his $250,000 bail, Evans is being held at the New Haven Correctional Center. He's due in court June 17.
