NEW HAVEN, CT — Last Friday morning just before 9 a.m., cops were called to Howard Avenue and First Street for the report of a stabbing. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said at the time.
Monday, police said that the victim, a 38-year-old man from Clinton, was "slashed" in the face and ear.
In a news release, police said that investigators learned that the attack happened in an apartment in the 300 block of Howard Avenue.
The man had been "invited" to "smoke with" several other people, and when he "walked into the building, he was confronted by three men."
One was identified as 46-year-old Juan Ortiz, police said.
Police said the victim was assaulted and then robbed by Ortiz: "He pulled out of pocket knife and slashed the victim in his face and ear."
Police located Ortiz and several other people in the apartment, they noted, and Ortiz was taken into custody.
He was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace, fifth-degree larceny, and interfering with an officer.
Ortiz was held on $500,000 bond, police said.
