NEW HAVEN, CT — New Haven police Special Victims Unit Detective Samantha Romano is a 2013 Quinnipiac University criminal justice graduate.
On Wednesday, the university published an article in Quinnipiac Today describing her path from criminal justice study and degree to where she is now.
She found her "passion" serving as an SVU detective. Romano investigates cases involving domestic violence, sexual assault, and crimes against children.
As police noted in a social media post celebrating her work and dedication to victims, she "approaches every case with compassion, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to those she serves" ... and her "commitment is reflected in the care and integrity she brings to every investigation and every interaction."
From Quinnipiac Today:
"Many survivors feel as though they can’t come forward for a host of different reasons: shame, embarrassment, and fear of not being believed. When a survivor does come forward, I always want to be a person they feel comfortable with, and at the end of our interactions, if they feel heard, feel seen, and feel believed, that is the most impactful part of my job.”
The NHPD in a Facebook post:

In December 2023, the NHPD recognized her with the Detective Andrew Faggio Service Award, honoring the selflessness and dedication that have defined her career.
Chosen by her fellow officers, the award recognizes someone who leads with compassion, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to both the department and the people who serve alongside them. It's one of the department's highest tributes to a colleague who earns the respect and admiration of their peers
