NEW HAVEN, CT — In the overnight hours Sunday, a man suffering a cardiac arrest fell from a barge into a barge bay, but despite rescue efforts, he did not survive, according to New Haven Fire Department Chief Daniel Coughlin.
Coughlin confirmed that at around 2:45 a.m., firefighters responded to the 400-block area of Waterfront Street for a "confined space rescue."
First responders found a 60-year-old man had fallen from a barge into a "confined area in a barge bay," he confirmed.
In cardiac arrest, first responders began an extensive rope operation to rescue the man from the confined space but he did not survive, Coughlin said.
