NEW HAVEN, CT — The "recognized industry leader in basement doors," New Haven-based BILCO is celebrating its 100th anniversary.
How's it celebrating? By giving.
"BILCO reinforced its commitment to veterans and the community with the donation of a basement door for a recent project with House of Heroes Connecticut," the company said in a news release.
It provided a Classic Series door for the home of an Air Force veteran in North Haven.
Since 2022, BILCO has donated multiple basement doors in support of the nonprofit's home repair program, helping veterans have safer and more accessible homes.
"Support from specialty companies like BILCO is invaluable because it allows us to provide high-quality repairs at no cost to the veterans we serve," House of Heroes CT Executive Director Carol May said. "During the five years we have partnered together, they have never turned down an opportunity to help one of our veterans, and that level of commitment speaks volumes about the company's values."
From the company announcement:
House of Heroes Connecticut is a volunteer-driven nonprofit organization that coordinates home repairs for military and public safety veterans. Working alongside skilled volunteers, contractors, and local businesses, the organization completes projects ranging from accessibility improvements and exterior repairs to roofing, painting, and structural upgrades. Earlier this year, House of Heroes CT serviced its 300th U.S. military veteran.
Aging or deteriorated basement doors can create safety hazards and leave basements vulnerable to water intrusions and weather damage. Replacing them with durable, weather-resistant products helps improve both the security and long-term performance of a home.
BILCO's Classic Series doors include patented gas spring lift assistance, flanged construction and J-channel header to shed water and prevent binding due to snow and ice, and baked-on Sherwin-Williams primer that provides a durable base for finish paint. The doors meet IRC 2023 building code requirements for emergency egress in finished basement living areas.
"BILCO has been an outstanding partner,'' May said. "They are responsive, professional, and genuinely committed to helping veterans. Whenever we reach out, they answer the call and work with us to find the right solution. Their team is easy to work with, dependable, and always willing to go the extra mile. During the five years we have partnered together, they have never turned down an opportunity to help our veterans, and that level of commitment speaks volumes about the company's values."
Since its founding in 1926, BILCO has been an integral member of the New Haven business community. Its partnership with House of Heroes CT reflects the company's longstanding commitment to support the communities it serves. By donating these products, BILCO helps ensure veterans receive the same quality products trusted by homeowners and contractors nationwide.
"Everyone at House of Heroes Connecticut is deeply appreciative of our partnership with BILCO," May added. "They don't just donate products—they invest in our mission and in the well-being of Connecticut's veterans. BILCO is a company that truly believes in giving back, and we are proud to call them one of our trusted partners."
