Standing next to the man was his 21-year-old son, later identified as Asad Dabre-Rufus, who police said was "the offender."

"The initial investigation shows that Dabre-Rufus has arrived at the residence to return some property, but a dispute began between the two that escalated when Dabre-Rufus stabbed the victim with a pocket knife," police said.

Bruckhart said Dabre-Rufus "called 911 and remained on the scene."

The father was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, where his injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening," Bruckhart said.

Dabre-Rufus was taken into custody and charged with first-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace. His bond was set at $75,000.
