New Haven Firefighters Battling Tuesday Afternoon 3-Alarm Newhallville House Fire

Just after 2 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters raced to 289 Division St. for a porch fire in 2 1/2-story wood-frame house, by 3 p.m., was 3-alarm.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Update: The blaze is now a 3-alarm, per fire officials.

The fire has extended to a neighboring building the department posted to social media.

East Haven Fire Department Chief Matt Marcarelli confirmed his department is sending mutual aid.

"We're headed to the city for station coverage," he said.

An active house fire in Newhallville is being fought by New Haven firefighters.

The fire department was called shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday to 289 Division St. for a fire on a porch of a three-family, two-and-a-half-story wood-frame house.

Firefighters report the fire was "going good," meaning they encountered a well-involved blaze.

Emergency crews have a large presence, blocking vehicle access between Dixwell and Winchester avenues.
