1. Hillhouse Assistant Principal Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Student: New Haven Police (patch.com) — New Haven police have arrested Hillhouse High School assistant principal Daniel Bonet-Ojeda on charges that he sexually assaulted a student in his office on two consecutive school days. Detectives say a forensic interview, school surveillance video, and witness statements supported the student's account, leading to multiple sexual assault charges and a $250,000 bond. The case has drawn intense concern within the New Haven school community.
2. Tweed resumes normal operations following problem with runway lights (fox61.com) — Tweed New Haven Airport has fully restored its runway lighting and returned to normal operations after four Avelo flights were diverted Monday night. Technicians worked overnight following recent flash flooding at the terminal, and officials say daytime flights were largely unaffected, though they urge New Haven travelers to confirm updated schedules directly with their airlines.
3. New Haven's red light, speed cameras now live (wfsb.com) — If you drive in New Haven, new red light and speed cameras are now live with a 30-day warning period before fines begin on October 15. Seven camera locations, including one near Hillhouse High School, will issue $50 tickets for first offenses and $75 for repeats, with appeals handled by a city hearing officer and data kept only by the transportation department.
4. Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven to reopen Friday (wtnh.com) — Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven will reopen this Friday at 7 a.m., after more than a month of cleanup from an August storm that damaged the historic carousel building and scattered debris across the grounds. City crews have secured the carousel, removed downed trees, and cleared glass and broken furniture, and officials will share more details about remaining work at a Wednesday announcement.
5. CT: CT's Shore Line East is adding four new weekday trains. Here's when they'll run (masstransitmag.com) — Shore Line East riders in New Haven will see four new weekday trains starting Oct. 5, including added afternoon and evening departures and arrivals at Union Station. Funded with $3 million in the state budget, the expanded service aims to close schedule gaps, improve commuting options between New Haven and New London, and encourage more riders back to the line.
