New Haven Man Accused Of Stabbing In Bridgeport: Police

The suspect was arrested on an assault charge, according to authorities.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A 36-year-old New Haven man was arrested Friday evening after allegedly stabbing a Bridgeport man during a street fight on Iranistan Avenue in Bridgeport, according to Bridgeport police.

Officers and detectives responded to the intersection of Iranistan Avenue and State Street around 7 p.m. Friday after a 911 caller reported a stabbing.

Police found the victim, a 36-year-old, leaning against a vehicle and bleeding from a serious arm wound. An officer applied a tourniquet before emergency medical personnel transported the victim to Bridgeport Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

Yannick Williams, 36, was taken into custody near the Bridgeport train station on Water Street after a patrol sergeant spotted a man matching the suspect's description, police said.

Officers found a knife with what appeared to be blood on it in Williams' possession, according to police.

Williams was charged with first-degree assault and failure to comply with fingerprinting and photographing procedures.

He is being held in lieu of bail of $100,000, and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court at a later date.
