5 Things To Know In New Haven: Speed Camera Warnings End, Union Station Upgrades And More

NEW HAVEN, CT — The warning period for New Haven's new speed and red-light cameras ends Thursday, work continues on a state-funded overhaul of Union Station, and volunteers are invited to clean up Beaver Pond Park.

1. Speed And Red-Light Camera Warning Period Ends
When: Warnings run through Thursday, Oct. 15
Where: City of New Haven, City Hall, 165 Church St.
What to know: New Haven's speed and red-light cameras went live Sept. 15, and drivers were to receive warnings through Oct. 15, according to the city.

2. Union Station Overhaul Underway
When: Exterior work underway; retail vendor applications due Jan. 29, 2027
Where: New Haven Union Station
What to know: Gov. Ned Lamont, state Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto and Mayor Justin Elicker announced major interior and exterior upgrades at the station, which serves nearly 4 million passengers a year, according to the city. Exterior repairs to the station and parking garage total $9.1 million, and interior improvements are expected to cost $15.7 million, all state-funded. The state and city are also seeking retail and food vendors for the station, with applications due Jan. 29, 2027.
