The APT Foundation which has been looking for a new larger building to serve the people who need treatment is eyeing the former Gateway College Building on Long Wharf. They tried to move to the Dixwell Avenue area but were met with resistance from the very beginning. They didn't want recovery in their backyard. However shouldn't a clinic be where the addiction problem is? I agree that the location was not centralized and I didn't like the location either, but not for the reasons the residents used S However according to this excerpt from a New Haven Register article people are not in favor of this location either. However the Food Trucks and litter are just fine?
"The idea of a new building for the clinic wasn’t well-received by some residents, citing issues some had with activity around the center, lack of community benefit and possible exposure to children. Foundation leadership offered to organize a clinic tour for residents to get insights on management and organization." credit NH Register
Ok so would someone enlighten me as to where APT should go? With the number of people losing their lives to addiction I would think residents would WELCOME a clinic that saves lives. Don't so quickly say " Not me and my family!" Because unfortunately too many people say that and lose their loved ones.

Addiction is not a moral failing but a brain DISEASE. "The stigma and shame of addiction has much to do with the perception that people with substance use disorders are weak, immoral, or simply out for a good time at society’s expense. Understanding that addiction impairs the brain in many important ways may reduce such stigma." Excerpt from Harvard Health
