Throughout the upcoming school year, students in 3rd and 4th grades will work with four different artists who specialize in 3D visual art, spoken word, and theater to create their vision of “The Future of New Haven.” Select student works will be presented at a culminating event open to the public.

Eileen Carpinella, Executive Director of Arts for Learning Connecticut stated that this funding is very important to Arts for Learning Connecticut as a non-profit organization. “We depend on institutional and private funding to subsidize the educational arts programming we provide to schools, community centers, children’s hospitals and libraries in need throughout Connecticut. This particular program is a very special opportunity for children of New Haven.”

Arts for Learning Connecticut was founded in 1979, originally under the name Young Audiences. The mission of Arts for Learning Connecticut is to integrate the arts into the lives of children in educational and community settings. The organization’s vision is that all children realize their potential through the arts; that the arts are valued for their ability to improve our schools and communities; that, by participation in the arts, children come to understand and value themselves, their neighbors, and the world cultures they share.

Arts for Learning Connecticut artists present educational arts programming in the disciplines of dance, music, theatre, storytelling, literary, visual, expressive, and interdisciplinary arts to children and families throughout Connecticut. Each year their programming serves over 250,000 children, families and teachers.

Arts for Learning Connecticut Board Chair, Lorraine Consiglio, stated “Arts for Learning Connecticut is an important resource for creative learning and arts integration throughout the state. Funding from the Carolyn Foundation will enable us to increase impact and help improve student learning opportunities in the city of New Haven.”
