Ash Wednesday at St. Luke's includes:

  • Noontime Imposition of Ashes & Rite I Mass: The imposition of Ashes followed by a said Mass to mark Ash Wednesday starting at Noon in the Church.
  • Ashes to Go in our neighborhood: On the afternoon of Ash Wednesday we will walk our neighborhood offering people a chance to receive "ashes to go." Our ability to offer this blessing to our neighbors will depend on having at least five of our members who are willing to join in this effort.
  • Imposition of Ashes & Evening Mass @ 7 o'clock: On this day we mark the first of the forty days of Lent, named for the custom of placing blessed ashes on the foreheads of worshipers. The ashes are a sign of penitence and a reminder of mortality, and may be imposed with the sign of the cross. Ash Wednesday is observed as a fast in the church year of the Episcopal Church. On this night we hear the words “Dust you are and to dust you shall return”. The theme of the day is penitential, including prayers of confession and reading of Psalm 51.
