Attention, Dog Lovers: Shelter Needs Asst. Animal Control Officer
The $48K union gig includes investigative/protective work caring for dogs and shelter operations. Must be HS grad, 1-yr. animal experience.

NEW HAVEN, CT —The Robin I. Kroogman New Haven Animal Shelter, a division of the New Haven Police Department, is in need of a Municipal Assistant Animal Control Officer.
Originally advertised in October 2022, a NHPD spokesperson told Patch the position has been re-posted.
A full-time union job, it pays $48,912 a year to start. The last day to apply is March 17. A high school diploma, a CT driver license, at least a year working with, caring for, animals, and other job related requirements.

This is investigative and protective work in the impounding and caring for unlicensed, roaming, injured, mistreated, diseased, vicious or dangerous dogs or other animals.
Work involves responsibility for assisting in the supervision of the general operation of the Animal Shelter.

Work is under the direct supervision of the Animal Control Officer, Joseph Manganiello and is reviewed by observation of results.

The Friends of the New Haven Animal Shelter, Inc. is an integral part of the shelter. As noted on its website, its mission is to serve.
"With safe humane treatments, members of this shelter are animal lovers who care for all creatures with love. This animal shelter has over sixty dog kennels, and thirty cat compartments. It is one of the largest municipal shelters in the State of Connecticut attracting over three thousand visitors annually. Yearly, there are over 900 intakes of dogs and cats, and approximately 1,000 investigations of animal related calls and concerns."
Through its partnership with the City of New Haven Humane Commission, The Friends of the New Haven Animal Shelter, Inc., and The North Shore Animal League, sponsors several off-site adoption events throughout the year, in addition to year-round adoptions at the shelter.
The animal shelter is located at 81 Fournier St., in New Haven.
