NEW HAVEN, CT —City health director Maritza Bond ordered New Haven’s Lighthouse Point Beach closed due to elevated bacteria levels in a water sample taken Friday. The measure also follows Saturday and Sunday beach closure related to Tropical Storm Henri.

The health department team collected a "fresh round of water samples today and anticipates results from those samples tomorrow following analysis by a state testing lab," a news release reads. The next regularly scheduled sample will be taken Wednesday, part of the healt department's thrice weekly testing regiment.

“Elevated bacteria levels are common after rain events,” Bond said. "As soon as we’re able to confirm the water is safe, we will re-open the beach."
