Boy, 9, Shot While Trying To Get Basketball Back
The boy was shot Tuesday evening. His parents were attempting to get his basketball back after it was taken from him by another boy.
NEW HAVEN, CT — A 9-year-old boy is in stable condition after being shot Tuesday evening in New Haven. The boy and his family were attempting to locate his basketball which was taken from him by another boy, according to police.
The victim was playing basketball at a court near his home and more boys joined the game. One other boy took the ball and left with it, said Capt. Anthony Duff, police spokesman.
The boy and his father walked around the Dixwell neighborhood in an effort to get his ball back. The boy's mother picked the two of them up in a vehicle.

"Several gunshots were fired at the family’s vehicle and the nine year old was struck once in the pelvis. The family drove to the hospital at 1450 Chapel Street," Duff said.
Yale Child Study Center responded to the scene because multiple children were present at the time of the shooting.
