Branford Man, 76, Killed In 4-Car I-95 Crash Thursday: Police

Robert T. Procaccini was on the Exit 44 ramp of I-95 north when he lost control of his vehicle, resulting in a multi-car crash, police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT —A 76-year-old Branford man was killed in a four-car crash on Interstate 95 in New Haven Thursday afternoon, state police said.

Robert Thomas Procaccini was driving a 2019 Lincoln on the Exit 44 ramp of I-95 north when he lost control of his vehicle and hit the back of the car in front of him, according to a report provided by state police.

The 1:40 p.m. crash caused the vehicle his car struck, driven by a West Haven woman, to "rotate and be pushed into the travel lanes" of the interstate, the report reads. A car traveling north on the highway parallel to the ramp then struck the West Haven's woman's car as Procaccini 's car "swerved across all travel lanes," and hit another car traveling north before colliding into the concrete median barrier.

Procaccini was pronounced dead at the scene. The West Haven woman was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital with "suspected minor" injuries, the report reads. Neither of the other vehicles' drivers were hurt, the report reads.

Police also ask motorists that were driving through the area of the collision at the time of the crash, and may have footage recorded on a vehicle equipped dashboard camera,to also conatct Troop G in Bridgeport.
