Bullets Strike Pre-K Classroom In New Haven
Police are investigating after a man walking his child to school was shot and several shots struck a school building.
NEW HAVEN, CT — Police are investigating after a bullet went through a pre-kindergarten classroom window in Westville Monday morning and a man outside the school was shot. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. near the intersection of Alden and Fountain streets.
A 26-year-old victim, who was walking a child to school, was struck by gunfire and suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Seven of the ten shots fired in the incident hit the Catholic Academy of New Haven at 351 McKinley Ave., according to a statement from the Archdiocese of Hartford. One of those shots entered a pre-k classroom.

No one in the school was injured. The building went into a lockdown procedure in response to the gunshots.
"The Archdiocese of Hartford is proud of the faculty and staff of the Catholic Academy of New Haven for executing this plan with total precision and care for the student body," the statement from the Archdiocese reads. "Counselors are on-site to offer emotional support to students.

"We also would like to offer our assurance to the community of the Catholic Academy of New Haven that neither the school nor its students were the target of this senseless and violent act, and that the safety of the student body is the top priority for all of our schools."
