Burglary Suspect Caught After Chase: New Haven PD
The suspect hopped eight fences during the chase, police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Police nabbed a suspected burglar after he ran from the scene and tried to escape by scaling eight residential fences, according to police.
Officers Jeremy Mastroianni and Joshua Castellano were dispatched to a burglary in progress call on Dewitt Street, said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman. The spotted a man walking by the front of the house and told him to stop, but he took off running.
Castellano gave chase on foot while Mastroianni followed in a cruiser. The suspect jumped eight residential faces during the pursuit, Hartman said. Eventually the suspect fell to the pavement and was handcuffed by Mastroianni.

The homeowner said he heard knocking at his door and the doorbell rang several times. He opened a bedroom window and saw a man climbing through it. He then screamed, slammed the door and called 911.
A 16-year-old girl in the area told police that she thought the suspect was her ex-boyfriend and that he was looking for her.

Police got surveillance footage that showed the man police apprehended and the burglar were the same, Hartman said. Davon Rakil Hailey, 25, of New Haven was charged with second-degree burglary, eight counts of third-degree trespassing, stalking and interfering with police.
