Until April 19, 2026, Kehler Liddell Gallery presents Found Objects by Frank Bruckmann and The Missing Pictures by Sean Kernan
ARTISTS’ STATEMENT:
Frank Bruckmann, with Found Objects, plummeted into the classic painting style of “trompe l’oeil”, a French phrase meaning “to deceive the eye”. A novel style for him, Bruckmann has painted items that look realistic enough to reach out and grab, while remaining engaged with mark-making and painting textures to achieve an intriguing abstract background. Quite the learning curve on its own, Bruckmann also works through a condition he has, amblyopia, which affects his binocular vision and depth perception. This has challenged him to attempt comprehension of spatial relationships, aiming to create a sense of depth. Of the subject matter, Bruckmann says, “these represent very distinct aspects of my current life: my painting studio, family, travel, relaxation, and a glimpse into my exercise regimen.”
Sean Kernan has conjured two distinct themes that dwell in the ephemeral - mood, echoes, chill air and moving light, present, then not, now only existing in his photographic images. The Missing Pictures: a mysterious old house in an open field...changes as seasons pass outside. It is both an old building and a space in the mind, brought into liminal existence first by the seeing and then with the images. No place... No date... No caption: a matrix of images made years and miles apart. Viewers are invited to look for the meaning which hovers just at the edge of vision.

Kehler Liddell Gallery (KLG) is a cooperative gallery in the heart of New Haven’s Westville village representing 28 of the area’s most notable emerging and established artists. Established in 2003, KLG is one of New Haven’s longest running retail galleries to date. All of the artists are juried into membership. Monthly exhibitions are highlighted by free community arts programming. The gallery is free and open to the public.

The College Access Collaborative of Connecticut 

The College Access Collaborative of Connecticut (CAC) is a community based educational consulting organization focused on improving college access, financial aid completion, and postsecondary readiness for first generation, multilingual, adult, and historically underserved students across Connecticut. CAC partners with high schools, adult education programs, nonprofits, and community organizations to provide hands on support with FAFSA completion, AACTUS guidance for undocumented and mixed status students, college applications, scholarship navigation, and enrollment planning. Services are delivered through workshops, small group sessions, and individualized advising, particularly during peak college and financial aid seasons when schools are often stretched beyond capacity. CAC’s work is designed to strengthen and extend existing counseling and outreach efforts, not replace them. What makes CAC distinct is its relationship centered and culturally responsive approach. Programming is offered in English, Haitian Creole, and Spanish, ensuring families who are often excluded from the college process due to language or system barriers can fully participate and make informed decisions.
