Coast Guard ramping a robust safety campaign

Boating, safety, paddle crafts, life jackets, coast guard, kayaks,

In anticipation of increased Labor Day water activities, Coast Guard (CG) units nationwide are ramping up a robust boating safety campaign. All boaters are encouraged to remain vigilant throughout the weekend, paying particular attention to weather, checking proper maritime warnings and notices, ensuring proper use and quality of safety gear, and following safe boating practices. The CG has noticed a significant increase in paddle craft incidents. Paddle craft operators are encouraged to label their kayaks, canoes, stand up paddleboards, pedal boats, rafts, and other paddle driven vessels with contact information. Most notably, the use of life jackets and sound producing devices when on the water is of utmost importance for personal safety. If safe practices are not utilized, CG assets may stop a vessel's activities.
