Connecticut Senate President to Undergo Kidney Transplant
Sen. Martin Looney intends to be present for the opening of the legislative session.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Democrat State Senate President Martin Looney of New Haven was matched with a kidney and will undergo a transplant Dec. 20.
There has been a four-month search for an available kidney, according to CT News Junkie. He has suffered from a form of arthritis since his teens and long-term use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory or other medications used to manage the condition can cause kidney issues.
Without the donation Looney would have to undergo dialysis treatment.

The donor is alive, according to the CT Mirror. Looney expects to be present for the opening of the legislative session Jan. 4. The senate is evenly divided between 18 Republicans and 18 Democrats for the first time in modern history. Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, a Democrat, would cast any tie-breaking votes.
30 people volunteered to be screened to find out if they were a match.
