Connex Helps Provide Food to New Haven Families in Need

Credit union recently donated more than $900 to Food Rescue US - New Haven

Several local families are now able to put food on their tables, as contributions from visitors to Connex Credit Union’s Hamden branch during the final quarter of 2016 were recently tallied and distributed to the New Haven division of Food Rescue US. As part of its philanthropic initiative, ConnexCares, Connex Credit Union’s Coins-for-Change program collected more than $900 for the organization, which was formerly known as Community Plates.

The Coins-for-Change program charges a five percent fee to members, and a seven percent fee to non-members, to use Connex’s coin-cashing machines. Each fiscal quarter, this money is donated to different charitable organizations in the local community, contributing more than $13,000 annually.

“Food Rescue US – New Haven gratefully accepts this donation from Connex Credit Union,” said Lori Martin, site director, Food Rescue US – New Haven. “Their commitment to non-profits is commendable and this contribution will increase the amount of food rescued and delivered to the New Haven-area partner agencies that serve those who are food insecure.”

Food Rescue US is committed to ending American food insecurity by salvaging fresh, usable food that would otherwise be discarded by restaurants, grocers and other food industry sources. These foods are transferred directly to food-insecure families throughout the United States. To learn more, get involved or donate, please visit foodrescue.us.
