NEW HAVEN, CT—Downtown bar detail cops breaking up an overnight fight Sunday, charged an Ansonia man with possession of a handgun with a high-capacity magazine, according to a police "X" post.

Police said that at around 1:30 a.m., officers "saw a fight break out on the sidewalk" on the 200-block of Crown Street.

"While breaking up the fight one of the involved individuals later identified as Johansel Caraballo, 23, fell to the ground and began reaching for a fanny pack which he was wearing across his chest," police said. "Inside the bag, officers located a handgun with a high-capacity magazine."

Caraballo was taken into custody and charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, possession of a high capacity magazine, first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree breach of peace and interfering with an officer. He was held on $300,000 bond.
