2 Dead In Downtown Stabbings, Suspect Sought: New Haven Police

NEW HAVEN, CT — Two people are dead after unrelated stabbing incidents in downtown New Haven, police said.

At around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, police said the first stabbing incident was in the area of Elm and Temple streets, where the victim suffered life-threatening injuries. Police later said the victim, a 37-year-old New Haven man, died as a result of his injuries.

The second stabbing occurred in the 300 block of Orange Street. The victim, an adult woman, died as a result of the injuries she sustained, police said. The Orange Street stabbing is considered a domestic incident, and a suspect is in custody, police said.

No victim IDs have been released.

Police released surveillance photos of one stabbing suspect, who was last seen running on the New Haven Green toward College and Chapel streets and may have been headed toward the Hill. This stabbing suspect is wanted in connection to the fatal Elm and Temple streets incident.

That sighting was reported by police at around 5:08 p.m.

Police spokesperson Officer Christian Bruckhart told Patch it's believed two men had an argument in the library, which was reignited outside the library's main branch at Elm and Temple, and led to the stabbing, with the suspect taking off on foot.
